Troubleshooting
TV dialogue is quiet but music is loud
Turning up the master volume raises the effects as well as the voices. Begin with the same short scene and find out whether the problem happens in one programme or across everything you watch.
Work through these checks
Compare the programme’s audio tracks
Open the app’s audio menu and check which track is selected. If a stereo track is offered, compare it at a comfortable volume. A difference between tracks gives you a starting point for checking format compatibility.
Try the dialogue option
Look in your model’s sound settings for a speech or dialogue option. Sonos home theater products offer Speech Enhancement while playing TV audio. Compare the same sentence with the feature on and off.
Compare night mode
If available, test the night listening setting separately. Sonos Night Sound reduces the gap between loud and quiet passages. Decide whether it makes speech comfortable at the volume you normally use.
Check the listening setup
Compare the TV speakers with your sound system. Note whether voices are missing completely or simply too low. For a receiver setup, check the selected speaker layout against the speakers actually connected using that receiver’s manual.
What did you find?
- Only one programme has quiet voices
- Compare its audio tracks before changing settings for the entire system.
- Voices disappear on the external system
- Check its input format and speaker layout with the exact model guide.
