Troubleshooting
TV has a picture but no sound
Keep the same programme playing while you test. The useful first comparison is the TV’s own speakers versus the speaker you normally use. It tells you which part of the setup to investigate next.
Work through these checks
Check playback and volume
Play a scene with speech. Cancel mute and raise the volume a little. With a TV box, check its volume as well. If a headset is connected, check which device is selected for sound.
Select the TV speakers
Open the TV sound output menu and choose its built-in speakers. Menu names vary by model. If they work, continue with the soundbar’s input and the cable linking it to the TV.
Compare two sources
Try another programme and an app built into the TV. If only one app or HDMI device is silent, check that source’s audio track, volume and output setting. Keep a note of which source works.
Use the model’s sound test
If your TV provides a sound test, run it using its own instructions. Samsung’s support guide uses this to distinguish a TV speaker fault from a source problem. Share the result and your model code with support if the test also fails.
What did you find?
- TV speakers work
- Check the external speaker’s input and its HDMI or optical connection.
- Only one source is silent
- Continue with that app or device and compare another audio track.
Find instructions for your model
Menu names, ports and reset procedures vary. Use the full model code and country of purchase to choose the matching guide and manufacturer documentation.
