Troubleshooting

TV sound is delayed or out of sync

Watch a close-up of someone speaking. Decide whether you hear the voice first or see the mouth move first. Those two situations need different adjustments, so note the direction before changing settings.

Work through these checks

  1. Use the same scene

Replay a short section after each change. Try another programme as well. A mismatch limited to one programme can originate in that programme or its app.

  2. Compare the TV speakers

Switch temporarily to the built-in TV speakers. If timing is correct there, examine the external audio path. If both are out of sync, compare the TV app with your external player.

  3. Adjust in the right direction

When sound arrives early, a small audio-delay increase can help. When sound arrives late, reduce an existing delay and compare with extra sound processing disabled. Note each original setting so you can undo an unsuccessful change.

  4. Compare a simpler format

If offered, test Stereo/PCM. It can help identify delay introduced by surround processing, but stereo changes the listening format. Check the result before choosing the final surround and sync settings for your devices.

What did you find?

Adding delay makes it worse
Restore that value and check whether sound was already late.
Only one player is out of sync
Review that player’s processing and audio output settings.
