TV sound over HDMI

Look for number 2 next to the HDMI sockets on your TV. This input returns TV audio to a compatible soundbar or receiver.

Start with these checks
Play something and check volume
Play a scene with speech. Cancel mute and raise the volume a little. If you use a TV box, check its volume too. Check whether sound is being sent to connected headphones.
Does sound return? Replay the original programme and keep the audio output that worked.
Compare TV speakers and the audio system
Temporarily select the TV’s own speakers in its sound menu if offered. Listen to the same scene. The menu name and path depend on the model and software.
Do the TV speakers work? Check the audio system’s input and connection. If the TV is also silent, compare sources in the next check.
Compare programmes and sources
Try another programme and a built-in TV app if available. Compare with your TV box or HDMI player. Note which sources produce sound.
Is only one source silent? Check that source’s audio track, volume and output. If all sources are silent, run the model’s built-in sound test if its manual documents one.
Check the connection you are using
For a separate audio system, compare the socket labels with both manuals and select the matching audio-system input. Switch devices off before changing an accessible cable. Let any update finish first.
Does a TV app work while the external player does not? Check the player’s connection and audio format. Change one setting at a time so you can identify what helps.

Restart or reset?
A normal restart and a factory reset are different actions. Follow the model’s restart instructions and replay the same source. Wait for any software update to finish before disconnecting power.
